SaaS or Fully Licensed System – Your Choice

Your customers may view their new meter as the arrival of the smart grid, but it’s the back-office that makes or breaks your smart grid’s success: smart grid software, hardware, and network management add a layer of technology and expertise that are new to most utilities. You decide to what degree you’ll host and manage the Utility IQ application guide, depending on your business objectives, the constraints of time and capital, and your staff’s skill sets.

If you prefer, we can offer UtilityIQ as a SaaS (Software as a Service): Silver Spring shoulders the burden of owning and managing hardware and software at our facilities, while providing you business-level SLAs; you focus on your core business and get fast implementation, low capital costs, and the lowest total cost of ownership.

Or if you prefer to capitalize your smart grid as fully as possible, take UtilityIQ as a fully licensed system: You buy and host the hardware, we give you a license to the software, and we train you to fully manage the system. It’s a bit less fast and it’s more work for your staff, but you retain the control your board may demand.

Or we can split the difference in one of our Managed Services solutions. Levels of support vary with each solution type, so we’ll help you analyze what kind of relationship is best for your utility.

Of course, you can start as a SaaS partner and transition to another mode of business as capital becomes available or as your staff’s expertise and comfort increases. We offer training to all of our customers, and a higher level of training to those taking hosting responsibilities in-house.

In any case, you are in the driver’s seat; Silver Spring will help you achieve your business goals. And no matter how you choose to interact with Silver Spring, your smart grid is efficient, effective, and secure.
