Silver Spring Networks Expands Global Leadership Most Widely Adopted Smart Grid Platform in North America
Company reaches deployment milestones with customers, launches international expansion in Australia and grows product offerings
Washington, DC, and Redwood City, CA September 22, 2009 - Silver Spring Networks, a leading provider of Smart Grid platforms, announced a series of operational and market milestones at Grid Week 2009. The Company's accomplishments build upon the overall momentum of the Smart Grid, and a growing international regulatory mandate. Silver Spring Networks' technology is driving many of the most successful Smart Grid projects in North America and abroad. In the US, the company has signed partnerships with and initiated field deployments for utilities serving more than 20 percent of the population, making the Company's IP-based networking solution the most widely adopted Smart Grid platform. Internationally, Silver Spring platform implementations have now commenced throughout Victoria, Australia with clients including, United Electricity Distribution, PowerCor and CitiPower.

- Silver Spring Networks technology is now deployed in over 1.5 million homes and businesses
- Each week, over 50,000 additional endpoints are networked with the Silver Spring platform
- Successful completion of a full Smart Grid City in South Bend, Indiana that includes Advanced Metering, Distribution Automation and Demand Response applications operating on a single network infrastructure
- Introduction of IEC-meter compliant metering support for international deployments, including the announcement and ongoing roll-out of four large Australian utility contracts
- Including new partners announced at Grid Week, Silver Spring Networks Technology Alliance Program (TAP) now consists of 32 companies representing a wide variety of Smart Grid products and technologies. Since its establishment in 2008, Silver Spring Networks’ partner program has driven real product interoperability and over 12 real utility deployments.
- Production deployments of a broad range of Distribution Automation applications, including automated switching and capacitor bank controls, using equipment from Silver Spring Networks partners S&C Electric, Cooper and ABB
- Introduction of the Company's gas metering solution with shipment to Pepco Holdings, Inc., one of the largest energy delivery companies in the Mid-Atlantic region, serving about 1.9 million customers in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland and New Jersey
- Silver Spring Networks' client roster includes many of the world’s leading utilities, including Florida Power & Light, Pacific Gas & Electric, Pepco Holdings, Inc., Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Commonwealth Edison, American Electric Power, Oklahoma Gas & Electric, Long Island Power Authority and Modesto Irrigation District in the US, as well as Jemena, UED, PowerCor and CitiPower in Australia.
