Modesto Irrigation District (MID) operates more than 200 miles of canals and pipelines. This system serves more than 3,100 growers who farm about 58,000 acres in California's Central Valley. MID and Silver Spring are working together to establish an advanced two-way, IP-based networking communication infrastructure in support of MID's system wide smart grid initiative. The project will support all of MID's residential and commercial metering needs. The project started in September 2008 and was installed and operational by early 2009.
