    Scott Lang, CHAIRMAN, PRESIDENT AND CEO

    Scott Lang, Chairman, President and CEO, joined Silver Spring Networks as the company's founding chief executive in 2004. Scott brings more than 25 years of leadership, marketing, sales and management experience in the services and utility industries. Prior to Silver Spring Networks, Scott first worked with Ross Perot at Electronic Data Systems and then joined Perot Systems in 1988, shortly after the company’s founding. During his career at Perot Systems, Scott spent 10 years in Europe building the company’s international business and went on to lead the Strategic Markets Group, which served the Global Energy, Communications, Media, and Travel and Transportation industries. Scott holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi and an Executive MBA from The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

    Under Scott’s leadership, Silver Spring Networks was named a 2008 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer. In 2009, Scott was named Ernst & Young’s 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year in Northern California in the clean tech category and Responsible CEO of the Year in the Private Company category by the editors of CRO Magazine. Scott and his wife Karen, have four daughters.

    Dr. Laura D. Tyson, BOARD MEMBER

    Dr. Laura D. Tyson is an international authority on US competitiveness, high-tech industries, trade policy and the global economy with a focus on "real world" economic problems confronting the US and its international trading partners. Dr. Tyson was the first woman to hold the post of Chairperson of the White House Council of Economic Advisers and, subsequently, that of National Economic Adviser to President Clinton. She is currently the S.K. and Angela Chan Professor of Global Management at the Walter A. Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Previously, Dr. Tyson served as Dean of the London Business School and Dean of the Haas School of Business. In addition to Silver Spring Networks, Dr. Tyson serves as a Director of Morgan Stanley, AT&T Inc. and Eastman Kodak Company.

    Warren Weiss, BOARD MEMBER

    Warren joined Foundation Capital with more than 25 years experience in the software industry, including serving as President & CEO of four software companies. Most recently he was President and CEO for Asera, which focused on connecting emerging e-commerce technology with legacy supply chain systems. He also held other senior executive positions at NeXT Software, Inc., which was acquired by Apple Computer. Warren also serves on the boards of SpringCM™, MarkMonitor, Rearden Commerce, Itemfield, Novazone and Guardian Analytics. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Illinois University.

    Adam Grosser, BOARD MEMBER

    Adam brings a fresh focus, entrepreneurial verve and substantial experience to Silver Spring Networks. Prior to joining Foundation Capital, Adam was president of Excite@Home’s 1400-person Subscriber Networks division with responsibility over residential broadband sales and marketing, commercial accounts, customer care and an integrated engineering, network and product operations team. He was the founder, president and CEO of Catapult Entertainment, steering the company through its sale to Mpath Interactive in 1996 and subsequent IPO. Infused with a love of technology and art, Adam builds boats and planes, bikes avidly and adopts rhinos and manatees for unsuspecting friends. Adam is a lecturer at the UCLA School of Film and Television, contributes to NPR’s Marketplace and holds bachelors, master's and MBA degrees from Stanford University.

    Thomas R. Kuhn, BOARD MEMBER

    As President of the Edison Electric Institute, the association of investor-owned electric companies whose members generate and distribute approximately three-quarters of the nation’s electricity, Thomas provides a unique and informed industry perspective. Prior to joining the Institute, Mr. Kuhn was President of the American Nuclear Energy Council and was White House Liaison Officer to the Secretary of the Navy. He currently serves on the Secretary of Energy's Advisory Board and on the boards of the NAM Council of Manufacturers Associations, the United States Energy Association, the Alliance to Save Energy, The Electric Drive Transportation Association and the American Council for Capital Formation. He is also the chairman of the Committee of 100 for the US Chamber of Commerce. Thomas received a BA in Economics in 1968 from Yale University, served as a Naval Officer following his graduation and later earned an MBA from George Washington University. He also has completed the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Senior Executive Program.

    Corbin A. McNeill, Jr., BOARD MEMBER

    Corbin is the retired Chairman and Co-CEO of Exelon Corporation, one of the nation’s largest utilities,. He also was Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of PECO Energy, the Philadelphia utility. He completed a 20-year career with the US Navy in 1981 after serving as Commanding Officer of the USS Tautog and Commanding Officer of the Naval Nuclear Power School. He joined the New York Power Authority as Resident Manager of the James A. Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant in 1981 and subsequently was named Senior Vice President, Nuclear Generation. Corbin serves on the Board of Directors of Associated Electric & Gas Insurance Services Limited (AEGIS), Northwestern Corporation, Ontario Power Generation and Portland General Electric where he serves as Chairman of the Board. He received a bachelor of science degree from the US Naval Academy and has completed graduate courses in business at the University of California Berkeley and Syracuse University. He is a graduate of Stanford University’s Executive Management Program.

    Ben Kortlang, BOARD MEMBER

    Ben Kortlang, a partner with Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB,) brings hands-on experience in guiding green-tech companies through their next stage of growth.

    Prior to KPCB, Ben worked at Goldman Sachs for 8 years, most recently co-heading Goldman's Alternative Energy Investing business. In this capacity, Ben managed Goldman's multi-billion dollar portfolio of alternative energy investments including Horizon Wind Energy, SunEdison, First Solar and Iogen. Prior to this, Ben led the private equity investing business within Goldman's Special Situations Group, before which he was a Vice President in Goldman's investment banking group focusing on Industrials and Natural Resources.

    Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Ben was an Associate with A.T. Kearney. Before A.T. Kearney, Ben was a Business Analyst at National Australia Bank in strategic planning and macroeconomic forecasting. Ben holds a Bachelor of Business (Economics & Finance) from RMIT University, a Bachelor of Commerce and an Honors degree in Econometrics from University of Melbourne and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

    Thomas H. Werner, BOARD MEMBER

    Thomas H. Werner is SunPower Corporation's CEO and a member of the SunPower Board of Directors. Prior to joining SunPower in 2003, Werner was the CEO of Silicon Light Machines, Inc., an optical solutions subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corporation. Previously, Werner was vice president and general manager of 3Com's Business Connectivity Group, a network solutions company. He has also served in executive management at both Oak Industries Inc. and General Electric Co., and is currently a board member at both Light Machines and Cree Inc. Werner holds a BS in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, a BS in electrical engineering from Marquette University, and an MBA from George Washington University.

    Rick Simonson, BOARD MEMBER

    Rick is the former Head of Mobile Phones and member of the Nokia Group Executive Board. The Mobile Phone unit accounts for more than half of net sales for Nokia Devices & Services. For the previous six years, Rick held the position of Chief Financial Officer. He joined Nokia in 2001 as Vice President and Head of Customer Finance. In addition to his duties at Nokia, Rick serves on the Board of Directors of Electronic Arts Inc. and the Board of Trustees of International House. He served on the 2008 US Treasury Advisory Committee on the Auditing Profession. Rick joined Nokia in 2001 as Vice President, Head of Customer Finance, negotiating and monitoring financial exposures and was responsible for finding third-party financing solutions for Nokia customers. In this capacity Rick was also instrumental in Nokia's worldwide effort to assure the financial strength and flexibility of its four business groups going forward, while simultaneously serving the best interests of Nokia shareholders.

    Prior to joining Nokia, Rick held the key position of Managing Director, Telecom & Media Investment Banking Group, San Francisco, at Barclays Capital. Before this Rick spent 16 years at Bank of America Securities, where he climbed the career ladder and was appointed Managing Director & Head of Global Project Finance, Global Corporate & Investment Bank, San Francisco and Chicago, in 1999. Rick has been a member of the Group Executive Board of Nokia since 2004. On April 1, 2007 he was appointed Member of the Board of Nokia Siemens Networks. He holds a bachelor's degree in science and mining engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, and a master's degree in business administration and finance from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
